Workout Wednesday: Kettlemania

I don't remember where or why I got it (probably at Target and probably because I thought it looked fun), but I have a 10 pound kettlebell that sits with my workout equipment in my bedroom.  When I got it, I thought 10 pounds was kind of a light weight, but I didn't realize how great of a workout I could actually get from it.  I have a kettlebell video that came with an even lighter kettlebell (like 3 or 5 pounds), and I've tried that video with the 10 pounder and it's intense.

I don't use kettlebells often - they're locked up in our gym and I usually get there before any of the employees are there to unlock them - but I occasionally do an at-home kettlebell workout.  My favorite one to do is to pick a number of different exercises to do for a minute each and repeat several times.  I try to complete the entire workout without putting the kettlebell down.  And holding a 10 pound weight for 20-30 minutes straight is difficult no matter what else you're doing.  So it really is a great workout.

Here's a great full body kettlebell workout that that will get your heart rate up.  If you're short on time, just complete the circuit once.  If you have some more time, try it twice or even three times.

Remember to alternate sides (or switch sides halfway through) for the lunges, high pulls, windmills, and plank and rows.  And switch directions halfway through for the figure eights, halos, and around the worlds.

Enjoy!
